What is exploring?

It is a program, which helps youth gain insight into a variety of programs offering hands-on career activities. It is designed for young men and women interested in careers in the field of law enforcement.

Exploring offers experiential learning with lots of fun-filled, hands-on activities that promote the growth and development of adolescent youth.

Some of the areas of instruction the Explorers will receive training in are:

  • Narcotics Trafficking and Interdiction
  • Emergency Field First Aid / CPR
  • Arrest and Search Techniques
  • Domestic Crisis Intervention
  • Effective Communications
  • Self-Defense Techniques
  • Firearms Instruction
  • Crime Scene Search
  • Crime Prevention
  • Traffic Stops
  • Police Biking
  • Hate Crimes

Exploring is a worksite-based program for young men and women who have completed the eighth grade and are 14 years of age, or are 15 years of age but have not yet reached their 21st birthday.

Meetings will be conducted every other Thursday at 7:00 pm at the McHenry City Hall Classroom. If you are interested please contact Officer John R.
