Citizen's Police Academy
During the past year, the McHenry Police Department hosted two
sessions of the Citizens Police Academy. The Academy gives civilians
the opportunity through classroom participation, practical exercises
and ride-a-longs, to experience some of the training that our
officers must go through in order to become certified. It also
allows the average citizen to see first hand what today’s police
officer can expect to deal with on a daily basis. Graduating
students are so impressed with the academy, that they have formed an
alumni association. The alumni association has helped the department
in such ways as raising funds for equipment and by volunteering at
various functions such as the Soap Box Derby.
