Picnic Shelter & Pool/Beach Rentals
Shelter Permits
Group picnics in City parks are encouraged. However, please reserve
early because shelters are on a first come first serve basis.
Reservations can be made for Knox, Petersen and Veteran’s Memorial
Parks. Reservations and payment can only be made in person. City
Residents and Non–Profit organizations can begin reservations
Monday, January 4. Non–Residents can begin reservations
Monday, February 1. Shelter hours are from 9:00 am to dusk
daily. The gates to the parks are closed daily. Please write two
separate checks payable to the City of McHenry. One check
should be written for the reservation fee (dated the day the
reservation is made) and one check should be written for the deposit
fee (dated for the day of the picnic). The deposit will be returned
to you after the picnic as long as the site is clean and not
damaged. For information on available dates and fees, please call
the Parks and Recreation office.
Rules
and Regulations
In order to guarantee a picnic shelter for family, company or
special use, reservation and deposit fees must be paid for weekday
and weekend picnic shelter reservations. Alcoholic beverages are not
allowed in the parks unless a beer and wine permit is obtained.
Without the permit you are subject to a $25–$100 fine. Alcohol
and special use permits must be submitted 4 weeks prior to the
reserved date. Falsifying the number of people for the
reservation will result in the loss of deposit. Tent set–up and take
down must occur the same day of the picnic unless special approval
is obtained. Family groups of 150 people or more must reserve two
shelters at Petersen Park. Companies must use Shelter C at Petersen
Park.
Weddings at Veteran’s Memorial Park
Weddings may be held at Veteran’s Memorial Park. Only one wedding
per day will be scheduled. You may bring in rented chairs and tents,
but please make note of this at time of reservation. Rental
equipment and decorations must be removed by the end of the day. The
three front rails on the gazebo will be removed and an additional
$25 maintenance fee will be applied.

Payment Process
